NVR Installation SoftwareTool Manual

To be able to receive the images from a Dahua IP camera on your computer and via the app, you must first complete a few steps. In this guide, these settings are explained step by step. The default username and password for the Dahua camera are ‘admin’. Therefore, you enter ‘admin’ for the username and also ‘admin’ for the password.

Step-by-step guide for Dahua NVR Installation:

Software Tool: Download the Config Tool and the SmartPSS software via the website of IP Camera Installatie. You can choose between a version for Windows and for Mac.

Preparation & Hard Drive: Turn off the recorder. Remove the casing and install the SATA hard drive with the included cables and screws.

Initialization / preparation: Start the NVR and make sure that your NVR is connected to your router.

Open the ConfigTool software

1: You first go to the Config Tool. The connected NVR will be automatically found. If you are using the NVR for the first time, the NVR status is ‘Uninitialized’. This means that you need to initialize the NVR. Initialization is necessary to make the NVR ready for use. Select the NVR and click on ‘Initialize’.

2: You now need to enter a new password. Make sure you choose a strong password so that your camera is well-secured. You can also enter an email address to be able to reset your password later. Then click on 'Next'

3: You will see a screen where you can set two options. You can decide yourself whether to turn these options on or off. It is recommended to turn off the option “Auto-check for updates” because otherwise you will receive daily notifications with updates. Then click on “Ok”.

4: Now you will see a screen with the message that your device has been initialized. Click finish to confirm this. The status of the device is now set to 'Initialized'.

5: You have now changed the camera's password. Then you also need to change the password in the Config Tool. If you do not do this, you will no longer be able to change the camera's settings in the Config Tool. Click on 'Search setting' and change the password to the new password.

6: Click now on the green pencil. Change the setting from 'Static' to 'DHCP' and click OK. This means that the camera will be assigned an IP address from the router. A green checkmark will appear next to the IP address when this is successful.

7: Then go to the SmartPSS program. Click on 'Devices'.

8: On the Devices page, click on 'Auto-search'. If everything is correct, you should now see your camera appear. You can select and add the camera. This process requires your username and password. If your camera is not visible, click on Refresh. If the camera is still not displayed, you can add it manually. To do this, click on 'Add' and enter the details.

9: The camera has now been added and the status is set to 'online'. If the camera is still set to 'offline', you must also enter the new password you set in the Config Tool into this program. To do this, click the pencil to change the password to the new password. The camera's status will then change from 'offline' to 'online'.

10: Now that this has been successful, you can change the camera settings via SmartPSS and view the camera footage live.

11: The IP address (IP-/domain name) that you see displayed on the camera is needed for the next step. By clicking DHCP in the Config Tool, you have set the camera to a working IP address. In SmartPSS, you can see what the IP address of your camera is. We will now directly access the camera via the web browser. Open Internet Explorer and enter the camera's IP address in the browser bar. You will first see a login screen. Use your own password to log in. It may happen that the web server initially displays in Spanish. To change the language, go to 'Config' > 'Sistema' > 'General'. Then click on 'Inglés' and on 'Guardar'. The language is now changed to English.

12: Now we will set up P2P so that the camera can be connected to the app via a P2P connection. Click for this 'Settings' > 'Network' > 'P2P'.

13: If the status is online, you can approach the camera via an app. You can use the Imou, IDMSS (iPhone) or GDMSS (Android) apps for this. With the Imou app, you must first register yourself. The IDMSS/GDMSS is ready for use immediately after downloading. In this example, we use the GDMSS app. The steps are roughly the same in all apps.

14: Click in the app on 'Device management' and click on the '+' to add a device. Choose 'Connected device'. Scan the camera's QR code (or enter the serial number manually) and enter the password. Click on 'Start live mode' to add the camera. You can now receive the camera footage via the app.
