Export and save camera footage after an incident

Viewing an event on the recorder is not the same as having a usable copy. Select the relevant images promptly, export them according to the system's capabilities, and check the files before the recording history is overwritten further.

Note event, camera and time deviation

Create an overview of the relevant camera numbers and time segments. Include sufficient context around the event, so that what happened before and after remains visible. Compare the recorder clock with the actual time and note any deviation. This helps with retrieving information without changing old footage.

Ask the recipient what is usable

If an insurer or other involved party requests images, check through the agreed contact who which segments and submission details are required. Do not automatically send the full recording history. An export that technically works is not guaranteed to be sufficient for a specific assessment.

Keep the original export result

Use the export function of the recorder or supported client and wait for it to be completed. Bring any necessary supporting files with you. Keep the original separate and work with a copy if another view is needed. A screen recording or forwarded chat video can display information or quality differently than the original export file.

Open the files outside the recorder

Check on a second device whether the correct time slot and channel are visible. If necessary, use the playback software offered by the manufacturer. Check all selected fragments, not just the first file. Note what has been checked and where the copy is stored.

Manage storage and provision

Store the files in a secure location with access for the responsible individuals. Use the agreed secure delivery method and check the recipient. Document which files were provided and let the subsequent storage policy align with the handling of the incident. Do not delete the original recorder recordings as a test or to complete the export procedure.

Frequently asked questions

Is a video of my screen sufficient as an export?

Not as a general replacement for the original fragment. Use the export function where possible and check what the recipient needs.

Can I wait until the insurer gets in touch?

Important fragments may disappear due to the storage cycle. Store necessary images promptly and check the copy.

Does an export guarantee that the insurer accepts the images?

No. Ask about the requirements for the concrete application and check the technical usability separately.
