A renovation provides an opportunity to route camera cables away, but it can also temporarily or permanently change existing sightlines. Therefore, split the project into what needs to remain functional during the work and what the new situation ultimately requires.
Note where the cameras and recorder are mounted and which cables belong to them. Take photos of the connections and mark the cables before a ceiling or wall is opened. Discuss which recordings should be kept. Removing only the equipment and later reinstalling it is not a complete plan if the space takes on another function in the meantime.
Discuss with the contractor and installer when the routes are accessible and when the finishing follows. A cable behind a new ceiling must be placed in the correct location before closing. Agree on who makes the conduit and who checks the exterior finishing, so that this does not fall between two tasks.
A camera behind scaffolding cloth or construction materials can be turned on but no longer provide a useful image. Identify the access points that change during the work. Request a temporary setup if necessary and note when it is removed or adjusted again. Also assess who will temporarily have access to the equipment.
A relocated door, extension or additional partition wall may require a different camera position. Therefore, do not automatically reuse the old holes. Compare a test image with the desired new walking path and then determine whether the existing camera and connection remain suitable.
Walk through all the important areas after the renovation and locate the recordings. Check whether temporary users still need access and whether the equipment remains accessible behind the new finish. Keep a summary of the final positions and connections; that makes maintenance after the renovation much clearer.
This is assessed on a per camera, connection and changed recording area basis. A working device can receive a different function in a new location.
