A back door is often approached through a narrow path, the garden, or a side entrance. The camera must capture that approach in a usable way. A perspective that only shows the door may actually miss the person standing in front of it.
Walk from the garden gate to the back door and note where someone becomes visible for the first time. Fences, a storage area, or clickers can obscure the route from view. Then choose which moment is important: entering through the path, stopping at the lock, or leaving the garden. That makes the purpose of the camera concrete.
A camera placed right next to a wall can lose a large portion of the image to that wall. Even in evening light, that spot deserves attention. Check the test setup to see if a slightly different angle or position shows the walk route better. Include an open-paned window and sunshade in the test.
A fixed spot for containers, bicycles, or garden furniture can later block the chosen sightline. Discuss which items are moved regularly. When delivering, do not just use an empty and tidy path as a test: assess the situation as it is usually actually.
Note whether there is an accessible route inside to the recorder or network. A rear wall can be located further from the meter box than the front door. Include that distance and the desired finish in the proposal. Avoid a design that only makes it clear after installation where the power supply should come from.
Re-run the route when the usual garden lighting is active. Check whether a recording can be found and whether the person at the door remains visible. Notifications and recording are separate functions: the absence of a notification does not in itself indicate whether a recording was made or not.
That depends on the purpose. Test the approach and the timing at the door, so that you consciously choose which image is needed.
Only if that sightline is usable from the chosen viewpoint. A corner of the house can require a separate position.
