Is the camera footage clear during the day, but a white shutter appears in the dark? Then the camera's own infrared light can reflect back to the lens. A wall next to the camera, a dirty dome or glass in front of the camera each require a different approach.
Save two screen captures from the same angle. Observe whether the blur extends across the entire image or appears only next to a clear edge. Note whether it occurs at the moment the night lighting is activated. This allows a technician to search more effectively than with only the report that the image is poor.
A roof edge, white facade, spiderweb, or window can reflect a lot of light back toward the lens. Therefore, also look outside the visible frame for obstacles. If the camera has a setting for that, you can briefly turn off the built-in IR lighting to compare the difference. A darker image during that test is expected; restore the setting after the check.
Check the exterior for dirt and follow the cleaning instructions for the model. On some dome cameras, a ring separates the lens from the infrared lights. A misaligned cover or ring can then allow light to reflect slightly inside the dome. Do not open the housing by chance: have the mounting and sealing inspected according to the manufacturer.
If a reflective obstacle is positioned right next to the lens, another angle or mounting spot is often a better point of investigation than continuously increasing the exposure setting. After making adjustments, have someone walk through the desired detection area. A disappearing white spot does not necessarily mean that a person is clearly visible in the frame at that location.
Send the model number, a day and night image, and a photo of the camera to the facade. Indicate whether the problem started after cleaning, painting, or reinstalling the hood. Share images preferably without recognizable bystanders; passwords are not needed for this first assessment.
Not by itself. The cause can be in the lighting or mounting and therefore remains with a higher resolution.
The own infrared light can reflect back on the window. Evaluate another mounting place or appropriate lighting outside the glass.
