Camera sound does not work

No sound can mean three different complaints: you hear nothing with the live view, feedback doesn't work, or saved clips are silent. Those features don't always use the same settings. First determine which direction and which use are missing.

Check which audio hardware is present

Check the specification of the exact model to see if it has an integrated microphone, speaker, or only an external connection. A microphone symbol in software does not indicate that both directions are available. Additionally, compare the recorder connection: a camera may support a function in its own interface that is not offered through another connection.

Test listening without responding

First, check the volume, damping, and the selected audio output of the viewing device. Use a short-arranged test sound with the participants at the camera. Compare, if possible, the normal app with a second authorized viewing device. Record whether the same stream is being viewed, so that a difference in display is not incorrectly interpreted as a defective microphone.

Research to be re-expressed as a separate function

If listening works but speaking does not, check the app's microphone settings and the supported operating method. Some applications use a pressed voice button. Evaluate the behavior according to the manual for the actual combination. Avoid having the phone and camera positioned right next to each other during a test, as the result may be difficult to assess due to feedback.

Compare live sound with a new recording

When live audio is present but a clip remains silent, let the used recording profile check it. Audio must be supported in the relevant recording chain and enabled where it has been agreed upon for the application. Create a new short fragment after a change; an existing silent recording will not receive the missing audio later.

Also check the export player

Play a new export file with the supported software. Note whether the sound is audible on the recorder but missing on the computer. When seeking support, please provide the model number, the affected function, and the exact error. Do not share unnecessary recorded conversations; a description of the pattern is often sufficient for the initial diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions

Does an built-in microphone mean that I can speak back?

No. For that, a suitable speaker function and supported connection are also required.

Can I restore audio in a clip that was recorded without audio?

Not by turning on the audio later. Test a new recording after the adjustment.
