Every Ajax system starts with the hub. That is the box that connects all the wireless sensors in the house together and sends the signal to your phone. Without a hub, a door magnet or motion sensor cannot communicate with anyone. So you choose that first, and only then do you connect the sensors that come with it.

The hub should preferably be located centrally in the house, out of sight but not hidden behind steel or thick concrete. It needs power and an internet connection; a fixed network cable is the most stable solution in this case. Therefore, when choosing the location, take into account a socket and the distance from your router or switch.

You connect the sensors to the hub and distribute them across rooms and groups. This allows you to focus on the ground floor while sleeping upstairs, or monitor only the garage. We determine that layout during installation, and you can adjust it later if you plan to use your home differently.

Baseline sensors work wirelessly and have their own batteries. No chopping or milling is required, and moving a sensor is a matter of unlatching and reattaching. The downside is that you have to replace those batteries in the long run. Take that into account when choosing the location: a sensor that you can easily reach, you can also replace later without hassle. Reach is the second point you should consider. Radio signal travels smoothly through plaster walls and wooden floors, but has difficulty with thick concrete, floor heating, insulation with a metal layer and closed metal cabinets. Therefore, a sensor in the shed at the back of the garden is a different story than a sensor in the hallway, even if the distance in meters is comparable. The more centrally the hub hangs, the shorter the path to each point in the house. Practical means that: tell us in advance how your home is built and which outdoor spaces should be included. That is better than later discovering that the kitchen nook is harder to reach than thought. We will include that information in the quote, so that the plan fits your situation.

You don't have to do the whole house at once. Many people start with the hub, the front door, the back door, and a motion sensor in the hallway. That covers the route that almost always someone who enters takes. Later, the shed, the bedroom floor, or a water heater under the washing machine come in. You connect each sensor to the same hub, so nothing needs to be replaced. What you need varies depending on the situation. An apartment with a front door requires something different than a standalone house with a shed, and a commercial building requires something different again than a residential property. Therefore, walk through your floor plan first: which doors and windows does someone actually use to enter, which rooms you want to be able to highlight separately, and what is happening outside. You'll see in the app not only that something happened, but also what happened. That saves a trip home for a cat or a branch against the window.
