A 4G camera uses a mobile network to send images or notifications. This can be suitable for a location without a fixed internet connection. However, the mobile connection does not replace power and does not indicate which recording function is available. Therefore, assess range, power, and storage separately.
Check the mobile connection at the intended mounting location, not just with a phone at the entrance of the site. The camera module, antenna, and supported networks count. View the live feed and a new recording via the planned connection. Also note whether the location changes temporarily, for example because containers or materials are placed in front of the antenna.
Compare the regional version of the camera with the supported networks and the SIM card terms and conditions. Follow the model procedure for activation and any APN settings. A card that works in a phone is not automatically suitable for every camera subscription or device. Let the chosen combination be confirmed before it is mounted at the correct height.
Watching a lot of live streams and downloading clips requires a different data bundle than occasionally viewing notifications. Note the expected usage and check the measured consumption after activation. Do not use a fixed number of gigabytes for all models and situations. Agree on who receives and follows up on data bundle warnings.
Check whether and how the model can remain locally recording when mobile coverage is unavailable. Then test how those images are retrieved. Storage on a map and cloud storage are different features with different dependencies. Explicitly ask which information remains if the connection temporarily drops out.
Determine whether a fixed power supply, battery, or appropriate solar power system is used. Record who can charge, manage access, and maintain the SIM card. For a temporary construction site, accessibility for moving and maintenance is often just as important as the initial image. Make those works recognizable in the installation proposal.
A suitable active connection is required for the mobile connection. Any local recording without a connection depends on the model.
