A privacy mask helps with a fixed unwanted image zone, but good camera orientation remains the first choice.
What should be clear in advance
Research which zone is needed for the purpose and which view outside of it is structurally not necessary. Also check whether the camera moves or uses changing presets.
Set without side effects
Mask only the necessary area and adjust the mounting angle if the mask would fill a large part of the image. Explain what the mask can and cannot prevent.
Focused checking
Check the result in live view, recording and app and test at night. Look whether the mask does not cover the front door, passage or other relevant details.

Does a mask work on a PTZ everywhere?
Only if the system and the used preset support this in that way.
