An external PoE switch can enable expansion, provided that both power and network path to the NVR are clearly working.
What should be clear in advance
Draw the cable route from camera to switch, uplink and recorder. Check PoE power, IP address plan and whether the NVR channel capacity is still available.
Set without side effects
Connect the camera to the NVR with appropriate credentials and avoid any random connection between internal PoE ports and existing business network.
Focused checking
Test live image, event, recording and restart after a controlled power outage. Label switch port, channel and camera name.

Does a camera work automatically when the PoE LED is lit?
