We sell camera systems and rent them out through Camera’s per month, so this comparison is not written to push you one way. The core point: buying is cheaper throughout the entire duration and makes you the owner; renting spreads the costs, takes service and maintenance off your hands, and can be cancelled monthly after the first year. Which option suits you depends on how long you stay on site, whether you want to invest, and how much troubleshooting you want to have with the system.
If you stay in the same place for years and have the budget, then buying is almost always cheaper. You pay once for the system and installation, and then only if you want to expand. With your own system, you can also take a separate service subscription if you still want to hand over the management to someone else.
In a rental home or rental property, a temporary situation, or when liquidity is more important than ownership, renting is the better option. You know exactly what camera surveillance costs per month, defects are our problem, and after the first year you can stop every month — for example if you move or leave the property.
