Without PoE, image data and power can be transmitted through various connections. A network cable can connect the camera to the recorder, but it does not provide power. First, check whether your model has a separate power input and which power the manufacturer recommends for it.
Note the required voltage, type of power supply, and connection details of the exact model. A suitable plug is not proof of electrical suitability. Use a prescribed or demonstrably suitable power supply. Do not connect an unknown adapter to try to see if the camera might start up.
With an IP camera, a standard network port can be sufficient for data, while an adapter powers the camera. With other cameras, another video signal can be used. Therefore, follow the diagram up to the recorder: the power plug, network connection, and video output are not interchangeable connections.
Plan a location where the power supply can be placed or secured according to its usage requirements. An outdoor camera does not automatically make the supplied adapter suitable for outdoor use. Bring moisture, ventilation, and access for maintenance. Have a qualified technician install a necessary permanent electrical connection.
A extended power cable requires control over the combination of cable, length, and load. Simply letting the plugs fit together is insufficient for this purpose. Describe the actual path when requesting, including intermediate connectors. This way, it can be assessed whether remote power supply is reasonable or if a different connection setup is better suited.
Check after connecting whether live view and recording are available and test the features you use daily. Also bring the night function with you for an outdoor camera. Label the adapter with the corresponding channel so that a power supply is not accidentally switched with another device later. Keep the specifications with the installation data.
Do that only when the manufacturer allows that combination for the exact model. It is not a general method to provide more power.
A standard network port may only provide data. The camera also requires a suitable power supply.
