Connecting the camera system with emergency power

Create a list of recorders, cameras, PoE switches, standalone adapters, and necessary network connections. Indicate for each component where it receives power. For external access, a router and modem may also be required; a separate UPS does not guarantee the connection's functionality at the provider's end. Therefore, separate local recording from internet accessibility.

Do you want to take a short break or create time to safely disconnect the equipment? Note that goal before choosing a model. The actual running time depends, among other things, on the connected load and battery. Use the data for the intended load, not only the largest number on the packaging or an untaxed demonstration.

Have the power of all necessary devices assessed together, including features that require more than regular everyday use. With a PoE switch, the power supply for connected cameras is included in that assessment. Also check the connection options and any communication for shutdown. A power strip does not change how much power the UPS can provide.

Schedule a maintenance appointment at which the operation can be tested according to the UPS manual. During the test, check which camera channels continue to record and whether the desired viewing device is accessible. Record the measured situation and duration. Do not randomly interrupt the entire operating installation to test only the cameras.

After checking the mains voltage or the recorder, automatically resume connections and recordings. Record who follows the battery warnings and when the supply is rechecked. A once-successful test does not indicate how much usage time an aging battery still has later. Therefore, also include management in the installation proposal.
