With an additional camera via an external switch or existing network, the address, password and protocol may be different from that of a camera that is directly connected to the NVR port.

Determine where the camera is physically connected, what network address it uses, and how many free channels the NVR actually has. Also check who is managing the camera.
Making a conscious choice
Add the camera according to the correct method for that connection and use your own access credentials. Do not apply wide network changes if only one channel needs to be added.
What you check afterwards
Check live view, recording, detection and timeline on the NVR. Document channel name, camera address and switch port so that a later malfunction can be traced.
